I am graduating from grade eight this year, and I’m really excited to be starting grade nine in September at the Saugeen Academy!

Saugeen Academy Successfully Hosts First-Ever Open House
We are delighted to announce that our open house for Saugeen Academy, held last Saturday, June 5th, 2021, was a tremendous success!
We arrived at the church in the morning to find that our new sign had been installed over the front entrance, completing the entryway to our new campus. This final feature really set the tone for the day and started us off on the right foot.
Open House Visitors
All afternoon, a steady stream of visitors dropped by to take a look at the school. Attendees consisted of locals, Hanoverians, and visitors from Barrie, Guelph and even father afield. They had heard about the event from our Facebook ad and came to learn more about the academy’s upcoming programs. We were also excited to see future students and teachers explore what will be their new school and help set up for the day’s festivities.
Music and Atmosphere
Given that the event was held primarily outdoors, we could not have asked for a more beautiful day for the occasion. A nice breeze kept visitors comfortable while tours were given (one family at a time) to show off the upstairs classrooms, library, auditorium, kitchens, offices, and downstairs spaces.
We were also fortunate to feature live music from violinists Kevin Mallon and Sarah Boyer, who serenaded visitors with their lovely duets. The sounds of music, laughter, and even the popping of our poor balloons against branches and bricks contributed to a lovely atmosphere of joy and happy anticipation.
We’re so grateful for the convergence of events, opportunities, and individuals that made this moment possible. Our values are to learn within the community and build relationships with those around us through volunteerism, gardening, shared spaces, and collaborative projects. This open house was a beautiful testament to these values, and we’re so excited for what’s to come.
Saturday’s event also proved that the Saugeen Academy is meeting a need—not just in Waldorf communities that need options for secondary education, but also for people who may feel dissatisfied with the education models available elsewhere.
We’re proud to offer an alternative for those that are concerned about what technology is doing to young brains, those who value a hands-on approach to life, and those who are ready to try something new that connects individuals to themselves and each other through a sincere engagement with the world and all it has to offer.
Thanks to everyone who helped make this wonderful event possible, and stay tuned for more updates and events to come. Another open house is currently scheduled for mid-summer to celebrate the completion of a few minor renovations taking place this month. Follow us on Facebook to stay up to date on our progress, and please feel free to contact us for more information.
In the meantime, enjoy a few snapshots from the big day!
